The UAF BioSciences Library is slated to close June 30. Students and faculty will be able to use the library as usual until that date. After June 30, library materials will be borrowed through the Keith B. Mather or Elmer E. Rasmuson libraries or by using standard inter-library loan procedures.
A core collection of reference materials and current journals will be transferred to the Mather Library in June, as will frequently borrowed items.
In keeping with university cost-saving measures, the space will be used by services being brought from off-campus.
Also in June, Science Librarian Steven Hunt will open an office in the Mather Library to provide reference and research services. Other BioSciences library staff will move to the Rasmuson Library and will be available via phone and email to provide services, including pulling and reserving materials and answering general questions.
Follow the BioSciences Update blog from the Rasmuson Library home page (library.uaf.edu) for further information.
A committee of UAF leadership, faculty users and library staff is working on the details of the move. Committee members are: Provost Susan Henrichs; Dean of Libraries Bella Gerlich; Flora Grabowska from Mather Library; Karen Jensen, Suzan Hahn, John Kawula and Kit Shannon from Rasmuson Library; Katherine O’Brien from BioSciences Library; Perry Barboza from from the Institute of Arctic Biology and the Department of Biology and Wildlife; Brian Edmonds from the College of Natural Science and Mathematics; John Yarie from the School of Natural Resources and Extension; Russell Hopcroft from the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; and Stefanie Ickert-Bond from the UA Museum of the North. Patrons may contact members directly or leave comments on the blog.
