HooDoo Join Bobby Wilken, owner of HooDoo Brewing Co., and UAF faculty for an engaging Teaching Tips Live discussion about ways to enrich teaching with field research experiences.

Just as the brewer’s worts are enriched by sequences of wild yeast and Lactobacillus added to the fermentation process, instruction can be matured by experiences gained in the field or by painstaking research. This Teaching Tips Live session will be broadcast from HooDoo Brewery and will feature stories about Wilken’s search for great tasting beer.

UAF faculty members Chris Hartman, of the Department of Computer Science, and Karen Taylor, of the Department of Communication, will also share successful field research techniques they have used at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Join the conversation at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, via this link: http://elearning.uaf.edu/go/ttl-fieldresearch. Teaching Tips Live events are delivered via Google Hangouts, meaning participants won’t be able to taste the beer but are encouraged to ask real-time questions.

Teaching Tips Live is a series of presentations hosted by UAF eLearning & Distance Education about new technology and instructional methods that can be used online and in face-to-face classrooms. These sessions are offered four times a semester and are available in an archived format at http://elearning.uaf.edu/go/ttl.

If you have an idea for a Teaching Tips Live event or want to participate in one, email Madara Mason, eLearning’s faculty development coordinator, at emason@alaska.edu.
