Building access during winter break
December 17, 2019
Many offices will be closed or have reduced staffing during the 2019-2020 winter break.
If your building has at least one exterior entry point with swipe access, this will be the mechanism employees use when the building is locked during the holiday and for after-hours access. To request swipe access, please contact your department’s approving authority.
Most student card access expired at the end of the current semester. If you have questions about when your access expires or if continued card swipe access is required, contact your department’s approving authority to have extended swipe access requested over the winter break.
For buildings without card swipe access, a department's key authority must request access through the Police Department’s online access request form if you have not been issued a key.
There are holiday exceptions for buildings whose exterior card access doors unlock automatically for the nine days of the 2019-2020 winter break period. The buildings listed below will not unlock automatically starting Tuesday, Dec. 24, and ending Wednesday, Jan. 1. They will resume normal building open hours Jan. 2, 2020.
Interior doors on electronic access control within these buildings and others will not unlock on schedule during this period as well. Affected buildings include:
Akasofu
Arctic Health (AHRB)
Brooks
Bunnell
Constitution
CTC Barnett
CTC hangar
Duckering
Eielson
Fine Arts — art wing
Fine Arts — music wing
Gruening
Engineering (ELIF)
Irving 1
Lathrop
Murie
Physical plant
Reichardt
West Ridge Research Building (WRRB)
These buildings and rooms will allow normal card access; they just will not be unlocked. Semester-based card access for students will have expired for most students. Extension of card access for students is provided by each department through the department's approving authority via email to uaf-fs-keyshop@alaska.edu. Faculty and staff card access will continue as normal.
Issues with the card access system can be made by calling Faclities Services at 474-7000 24 hours a day. Generally, FS cannot resolve individual card access problems, as there is not sufficient information from the departments to verify specific individual access requests. Additionally, the Bursar's Office will be closed and will not be able to resolve individual card problems.
Notes:
- BiRD, Museum, and Rasmuson Library buildings do not unlock automatically.
- Wood Center winter break schedule.
- UAF police will continue to unlock areas that are listed through ASTRA.
Security for all key holders: As a reminder, you are responsible for securing keys checked out to you. No one else should have open access to your keys. Please ensure that your keys are safely locked away during the closure, and at any time they are not in your direct control.
