The Alaska state forester has ordered a burn ban for many parts of the state, including the Interior. The order bans all open burning, including campfires in or out of established fire pits or rings. Due to the ban, all burning on UAF property and field camps in the following areas is prohibited:

• Copper River Valley, including Glennallen south to Valdez

• Denali Borough

• Fairbanks North Star Borough

• Kenai Peninsula Borough

• Matanuska-Susitna Borough

• Municipality of Anchorage

• Tanana Valley, including Delta, Nenana, Northway, Tanacross, Tok and surrounding communities

The ban includes on-campus fire rings, but does not apply to charcoal and gas grills, or to backpacking or camp stoves. Complaints of illegal burning on or off campus may be reported directly to 911. All other nonemergency questions related to open flames and burning at UAF may be directed to UAF Fire Marshal Kyle Green at 474-5757 or kgreen38@alaska.edu, or to 455-FIRE (ext. 3473) after regular business hours.
