Butrovich maintenance work in May will affect some online services

University Relations

On Saturday, May 15, and Saturday, May 22, UAF Facilities Services will be conducting a planned maintenance power shutdown to the entire Butrovich Building to prepare electrical systems for the integration of a new backup generator for the Butrovich Data Center.  The electrical system must be completely powered down to ensure safety for the technicians doing the work.

This planned maintenance shutdown will mean that UA enterprise data systems served out of the BDC will be offline and unavailable during the following timeframes:

  • Saturday, May 15: Starting at 12:01 a.m. and scheduled to conclude at 11 p.m.

  • Saturday, May 22: Starting at 12:01 a.m. and scheduled to conclude at 10 p.m.

Those systems include Banner and related applications (TEM/Workflow, Vista Plus, App Manager, DegreeWorks), and OnBase.

In addition to these IT services, the Troth Yeddha' campus, including the Butrovich Building, and all UAF community campuses and outreach centers will lose on-campus internet access during the planned maintenance shutdown. UA and UAF users will also lose access to VPN services and any shared file servers hosted in the BDC.

Systems and services not hosted in the BDC should be available, such as email, Internet services for UAA and UAS and their affiliated community campuses, etc.

As part of the generator integration process, the Butrovich Building will be on limited temporary power for the time period between Saturday, May 15 and Saturday, May 22.  During this period there will be no power fed to the personnel occupied spaces within the Butrovich Building.  Please plan accordingly to work remotely (not in the Butrovich Building) during this time.

University employees in the Butrovich Building can help with a smooth transition of this process by powering down their workstations and other electrical loads at 5 p.m. Friday, May 14.
