Entry is free. The deadline for submittal is Jan. 2.
Artists may submit up to three images. Entries are categorized according to the image's elevation above sea level, ranging from category one, 446 feet and below, to category four, 20,310 feet and above.
MacKeith was an adventurer at heart. Born in England, MacKeith's love for mountaineering and glaciology drove him to explore Greenland, Afghanistan, Baffin Bay, South America and, finally, Alaska. Along the way, he earned degrees in electrical engineering and science from Cambridge University and optics and physics from Imperial College. MacKeith was a doctoral student at UAF in the Geophysics Department when he died in a climbing accident in the Alaska Range in 1980 at the age of 30.
MacKeith was an avid photographer and documented many of his adventures. An endowment fund was created in his honor to support amateur photography.
An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at the Arctic Java. The event will be catered and feature live music by The Vocal Chords.
Seth Adams, a freelance adventure writer and photographer from Fairbanks, will serve as the exhibition's juror.
