The Student Veterans of UAF will host their third annual Veterans Day Memorial Roll Call on Monday, Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Constitution Park on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. with the singing of the National Anthem and ROTC posting the colors. Following this opening ceremony, volunteers from the campus, military and greater Fairbanks communities will begin reading the names of the more than 6,700 service members who have been killed in action while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The roll call will continue until the last name is read and will be followed by a closing ceremony, which will feature a guest speaker, the singing of “Amazing Grace,” a 21-gun salute from the Alaska Honor Guard and a candlelight vigil. UAF ROTC will retire the colors.
Additionally, UAF will host a Military and Veterans Resource Fair on Friday, Nov. 15, from 2-5 p.m. in the Wood Center. The event will include organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project, Armed Services YMCA, Operation Military Kids and many more in an effort to spread awareness of services available to service members, veterans and their families in the Fairbanks area.
Both events are open to the public. Volunteer readers and supervisors are requested for the roll call. Sign up at www.uaf.edu/veterans or email pchokenson@alaska.edu for more information. Information is also available by calling 907-474-2475.
