Shuttle services will change starting Sept. 2

UAF Transportation Services will change shuttle bus services and routes on Sept. 2 to take advantage of better access to the newly expanded Wood Center, improve efficiency and respond to budget limits.

  • On-call shuttle service: The two on-call shuttles to Administrative Services on College Road, West Valley Plaza, 590 University Avenue, the Harper Building and the UAF Georgeson Botanical Gardens will be eliminated. The on-call shuttle will be replaced with a new University Route that includes scheduled service to the University Park Building and Hutchison Institute of Technology. However, the on-call shuttle will remain available to students, faculty and staff with temporary or permanent disabilities. Call 474-RIDE (7433) for service.

  • Taku Parking Lot shuttle service: The shuttle service to Taku parking lot will be discontinued. If you park in that lot, you can use the newly constructed stairs. Those people who prefer a shuttle can park in the Nenana lot and ride the shuttle to the new Wood Center South turnaround.

  • Evening Route addition: The Evening Route is a 20-minute scheduled loop that will circle campus in a clockwise fashion beginning at Wood Center and proceeding to the Taku lot, Wood Center South, the Nenana lot, Murie Building, Elvey Building, Reichardt Building and the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland dormitory complex.

  • Shuttle from Nenana lot will now drop off at Wood Center South: Moving the shuttle stop from the Eielson Building to the new turnaround at Wood Center South will eliminate bus traffic through the Eielson South parking lot, ending conflicts with other vehicles in that area. Because the route to the new drop-off point is less congested, the trip time is shorter and wait times should be less at both Wood Center and the Nenana lot. The new Wood Center addition also offers a pleasant indoor waiting area.

Once the new engineering facility on Tanana Loop is complete, a shuttle stop is planned on the southeast side of that building for convenient service to it and the Duckering and Bunnell buildings. The changes should result in an overall improvement to the shuttle service in this area of campus.

Comments and suggestions regarding shuttle service are always welcome and may be sent to uafshuttles@fs.uaf.edu. Staff, faculty and students are also encouraged to take advantage of the Fairbanks North Star Borough's Metropolitan Area Commuter System buses, which are free to ride with a PolarExpress card.
