Career-exploration volunteers needed

University Relations

UAF volunteers from a variety of fields are needed to help second-graders explore careers in November. Research shows that children start thinking about higher education and career opportunities as early as age eight. The I Know I Can program helps students build very early college and career plans, while helping them practice reading, writing, spelling, public speaking and artistic creativity. Volunteers visit participating elementary schools to read to kids and talk about what they want to be when they grow up. Each child will receive a copy of the book "I Know I Can" as well as a postcard they make themselves with college and career information.

Volunteers are needed for only 60-75 minutes. Contact Ashley Munro in the Financial Aid Office at 474-1934 or akmunro@alaska.edu to sign up and get a copy of the book in advance. Be someone who helps!
