Certified food protection manager training scheduled

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will host a certified food protection manager workshop Aug. 27 in Palmer and at videoconference locations in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Soldotna and Sitka.
The deadline to register is Aug. 15.
The training will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a lunch break. Alaska regulations require food establishments to have at least one certified food protection manager on staff. Food protection managers monitor and manage food establishments to protect public health and ensure the facility complies with food safety regulations.
Morgan Poloni of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation will lead the training. Topics will include preventing contamination and cross-contamination, monitoring the flow of foods, product time and temperature, ensuring employee hygiene, cleaning and sanitizing, and preventing and controlling pests.
After completing the one-day training, participants must pass a certification exam before working as a certified food protection manager. The $175 fee includes the class and the certification test. Register online at http://bit.ly/ces-workshops.
The Palmer training will be offered at the Matanuska Experiment Farm distance delivery classroom. Videoconference locations include the district Extension offices at 724 27th Ave. in Fairbanks and 1675 C St. in Anchorage. Other locations include Room 203 of Kenai Peninsula College in Soldotna and Sitka College, Room 110.
