The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences Department of Fisheries in Juneau will hold its weekly seminar Friday, Jan. 22, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Alaska Sea Grant Director Ginny Eckert will provide an overview of the Alaska Sea Grant State and Knauss Fellowships. Amy Kirkham will share her experiences as a Knauss Fellow working in Sen. Lisa Murkowski's office. Hannah Wilson will share her experiences working on Alaska mariculture policy as a State Fellow.

Experiences and Opportunities from the Alaska Sea Grant State and Knauss Fellowships: career development in marine policy and agency science

The Alaska Sea Grant State and Knauss Fellowships provide 12-month professional opportunities for soon-to-graduate or recently finished graduate students interested in the science and policy needed to keep our marine resources healthy. The Knauss Fellowship is for graduate students interested in national policy decisions affecting coastal and ocean resources. Recipients spend a year in the Washington, D.C., area in an executive or legislative position, working on substantive national policy issues related to aquatic resources. Alaska Sea Grant State Fellows work in Alaska with hosts in Alaska-based state or federal agencies.

The three speakers will be available after the seminar to answer questions from prospective applicants.
