December 1, 2020

Alice Bailey

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences will hold its keynote seminar on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 1-2 p.m. via Zoom. The talk will be offered by Richard W. Spinrad, a professor of oceanography at Oregon State University; member of the Ocean Studies Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine; and vice chair of the U.S. National Committee for UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

"The New Blue Economy: People, Products and Policies"

The new blue economy is a knowledge-based economy, looking to the sea not just for extraction of material goods, but for data and information to address societal challenges and inspire solutions. Expectations for this economic sector are starting to be realized, and will depend critically on the development of a vast array of new information-based products, as well as new policies and innovative ideas for workforce development.
