Laura Whitmore will discuss geochemical tracers of Arctic Ocean processes from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, via Zoom during the weekly College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences seminar.

Whitmore is a postdoctoral fellow with an appointment at CFOS.

The Arctic Ocean is connected to global oceans and climate through the North Atlantic Ocean and regional thermohaline deep-water formation sites. It’s also a region undergoing rapid environmental change.

To inform the oceanographic community of potential changes to geochemical and biogeochemical cycles, Whitmore’s work uses geochemical tracers to follow Arctic Ocean processes. In this talk, she will focus on two tracers, gallium (Ga) and barium (Ba), that can be used to track distributions of water types to better understand key processes in the Arctic climate system.
