Tales from Texas: Inland Fisheries Issues and Efforts in the Largest State (in the Lower 48)

The Inland Fisheries Division of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is the spearhead of efforts to “provide the best possible fishing opportunities while protecting and enhancing aquatic resources, including the diversity of Texas freshwater fishes, other freshwater species, and their habitats.” These efforts provide ecosystem services for each of the state’s 29-million citizens and the best possible fishing for more than 2-million anglers. Marque IF efforts discussed in this presentation will include the Toyota ShareLunker Program, Alligator Gar research and management, reservoir fisheries habitat enhancement, and outreach partnership efforts like the Toyota Bassmaster Texas Fest. Lang will also discuss the impacts of COVID-19 on these and other fisheries efforts.
