Chancellor's Cornerstone Award nominations

It's time to recognize the vital contributions staff make to UAF every day by submitting nominations for the 2012 Chancellor's Cornerstone Award. Nominations will be accepted until Feb. 20, 2013.
Last year, nearly 100 employees took time out of their busy schedules to nominate their colleagues and staff for their exemplary work. I encourage all employees to help me recognize employees who have shown outstanding commitment to UAF. Whether it's someone outside of your department that always seem eager to help, or a staff member within your department who demonstrates the spirit of this award, we should continually look for opportunities to reward a job well done. This year we’ve added to the nomination criteria to reflect the efforts of staff who exhibit sensitivity to cultural diversity and work towards building an inclusive, welcoming environment.
The awardee is recognized at Staff Appreciation Day and will receive a lapel pin, a copy of The Cornerstone on College Hill by Terrence Cole and a cash award. Staff and faculty who nominate others will be entered in a drawing to win an ice cream party for their department.
The cornerstone behind the awardJudge James Wickersham laid the cornerstone on July 4, 1915, as a symbol of what would become the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines, and, later, the University of Alaska. The nod to our past is important. As we find ourselves nearing the 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone, there's one thing that's certain — our employees are the foundation of our future. Therefore it's fitting that our outstanding staff be honored with the Chancellor's Cornerstone Award.
