Changes to single sign-on for online services
May 5, 2021
What is single sign-on?
Single sign-on, or SSO, is a centralized user authentication service. You only have to log in once with your UA credentials to access the tools, applications and services that use the same SSO.
What do the new SSO services mean for me?
The change just means one less password for many people. Everything else stays the same.
Well, almost everything
Your log-in page will look different!
With recent phishing attempts, it’s good to be cautious when you see changes to any page that requires your username, password or other identifying information.
Here are some steps to take to protect yourself:
- Double check the URL to make sure it’s one you know.
- Make sure emails come from a known email address like @alaska.edu.
- When you hover over a link, the URL shows the alaska.edu address.
- Do not interact with emails that initiate contact with you and ask you for personal information, log-ins, passwords, etc.
- Do not interact with emails that make threats or try to extort you.
If you think you are the target of a phishing attempt, contact oit-security@alaska.edu . If you have any other questions, please reach out to the OIT service desk for help.
