Coffee hour to discuss tuition change proposals

August 24, 2020

Vice Chancellor Keith Champagne will host a virtual coffee hour with students Aug. 27 to discuss possible tuition scenarios being developed by UAF. The online session will take place from 1-2 p.m. Students are also welcome to email their feedback to kmchampagne2@alaska.edu.

Last fall, the UA Board of Regents asked the three universities to look at better coordinating how we set tuition with our overall budget planning process. Over the last several months, UAF developed some tuition scenarios and is now soliciting student feedback on them.

The options outlined here are based on market research analysis of students’ thoughts and needs regarding UAF, costs and scholarships in Alaska and the Lower 48. All of the tuition model scenarios contain additional scholarship and financial aid for students.

The scenarios are still in development, and nothing has been officially proposed. Chancellor White has asked the UAF Tuition and Fee Committee and UAF Planning and Budget Committee to review possible scenarios that may go into a request, but those ideas are still being explored.
