— Doug Schrage, UAF pandemic Incident Management Team director

The UAF pandemic IMT is charged with tracking UAF employees and students who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or who are designated as a Person Under Investigation, or PUI, for the disease.

The information gathered will be handled in a responsible manner in order to provide a measure of privacy to employees and students. It will help guide the Incident Management Team in managing disinfection, distancing measures and building access. This procedure is in addition to other UA and community restrictions.

  1. Employees who become ill must notify their supervisor and go home immediately. Sick leave is available.

  2. Any person with flu-like symptoms should consult their medical provider. Fairbanks area residents should also call the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital COVID-19 hotline for guidance: 907-458-2888.

  3. Any person with flu-like symptoms who has tested for or been ordered to test for COVID-19, or who has tested positive, must self-isolate until cleared by their physician.

Any UAF affiliate, including on-campus employees, students or residents, who has tested positive for the novel coronavirus or has become a Person Under Investigation — that is, has been tested or ordered to test for the coronavirus — should immediately notify UAF’s Department of Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management by email at uaf-ehsrm-1@alaska.edu and provide the following information:

    • Nature of illness;

    • Date of first symptoms;

    • When the individual was last at a UA facility, and specific movements;

    • When the individual last traveled on UA business; and

    • Contacts in the 48 hours preceding COVID-19 symptoms with UA affiliates or others while on UA business

This is a confidential email address used only for reporting PUIs and COVID-19 positive status. Strict measures are in place to preserve the security of this information and the privacy of individuals. This information will be used to guide disinfection planning and building access. For campus residents, the information will be shared with Residence Life.
