Freiburger is new Rural Student Services director

Annette Freiburger has accepted the position of director of the University of Alaska
Fairbanks' Rural Student Services, Interim Vice Chancellor and Acting Executive Dean
for the College of Rural and Community Development Pete Pinney announced.
Freiburger started in her new role Monday, March 24. Rural Student Services encompasses
Rural Student Advising, Rural Alaska Honors Institute and Eileen's House.
Freiburger previously served as the coordinator for the Nenana Center with the Interior-Aleutians
Campus. Prior to her service with the university, Freiburger worked with the Fairbanks
Native Association, where she started as the human resources manager and retired as
the executive director.
Freiburger is most notably involved with the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Native
Education and the Troth Yeddha’ Legacy Committee, whose goal is to establish a park
and an indigenous studies center to create a lasting bridge between indigenous cultures
and higher education.
Freiburger is the daughter of the late Andrew and Effie Kokrine, originally from Tanana.
She has been married to Vincent Freiburger for 33 years. They have two sons, Brent
and Michael, and two grandsons, Aydan and Kyen. Freiburger received a bachelor’s degree
in sociology and human services from Fort Lewis College in Colorado and her master’s
degree in northern studies from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
