The UAF Study Away office will host an information session regarding the Critical Language Scholarship, a fully funded summer program that is open to undergraduate and graduate students from any field of study.

The information session will take place on Zoom on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 1-2 p.m. The application deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 17.

The CLS is a structured overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students that is fully funded by the U.S. Department of State. The intensive program is eight weeks long and takes place over the summer. CLS currently offers programs in 15 languages that are critical to our engagement with the world all across academic and professional disciplines. Languages include: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish and Urdu. Many of these languages do not require any prior experience learning the language.

During the online information session, CLS program officer Chris Stiles will cover such details as travel arrangements, living accommodations (such as host families or roommates), and some of the benefits of participating. He will also share some tips on how students can make their application more competitive, as well as answer any questions students may have about the program. A flyer about the information session is attached to this email.

Apply online by Tuesday, Nov. 17.
