'Denali's Howl' author to discuss climbing tragedy
October 31, 2014
Of the 12 young men on the 1967 expedition, only five survived.
Hall, son of the park superintendent at the time, spent years tracking down survivors, lost documents and recordings of radio communications. In "Denali’s Howl," Hall reveals the full story. At an elevation of nearly 20,000 feet, the men endured an “arctic super blizzard,” with winds of up to 300 miles per hour and wind chill that can freeze flesh solid in minutes.
Hall's visit is sponsored by the UAF Department of Recreation, Adventure and Wellness and the Alaska Alpine Club.
