Donations needed for MLK Day of Service
January 13, 2021
Donations are being sought to help students participate in the 2021 MLK Day of Service
on Monday, Jan. 18. The Nanook Diversity and Action Center will have service opportunities in the morning as well as a free speech workshop
in the afternoon.
The day honors the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Through his leadership and activism, King became the primary spokesperson for the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s. His work toward racial justice and aiding the poor is a legacy that activists and organizations continue to foster.
As part of UAF's MLK Day of Service, students will be preparing personal protective
equipment and hygiene packets for the homeless population. NDAC is hoping to assemble
100 packets to distribute to various local organizations that provide housing and
food.
We are looking for the following items:
- gallon-size Ziploc bags
- unscented bars of soap
- travel-size shampoo
- small packs of sanitizing wipes
- disposable masks
- travel-size toothpaste and toothbrushes
- individually wrapped feminine hygiene products
Please deliver all donations to the Wood Center front desk by Monday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. For more information, contact the Nanook Diversity and Action Center at 474-6369 or email us at uaf-ndac@alaska.edu.
