eCampus director candidate presentations

The eCampus director search committee has chosen three candidates to give public presentations
on the Fairbanks campus next month. Audience members can submit questions during the
public forums by emailing uaf-provost@alaska.

Paul Oliphant
Tuesday, June 18, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
BP Design Theater
Paul Oliphant is currently the director of Academic Technology and Web for the business
school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and previously founded the teaching
and learning services unit in the engineering college. With over 20 years of experience
in digital learning, he has been a learner-centric innovator, leveraging technology
to enhance the classroom and online experience for business and STEM students. Oliphant
has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in civil engineering with a
computer science minor, as well as an MBA. With this unique combination, Paul knows
technology, the educational community and finds satisfaction in providing exceptional
service. Paul has built a reputation for achieving sustainable results with a style
that emphasizes creativity, innovation and agile teamwork while providing excellent
services and civil partnerships. His leadership is recognized and sought after by
the academic community on the UW-Madison campus and nationally.
Owen Guthrie
Friday, June 21, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
BP Design Theater
Owen Guthrie was born and raised in Fairbanks. His career with UAF began in 1984 at
Tanana Valley Community College. Since then, he has found his place working at the
crossroads of higher education and technology in the service of teaching, learning
and research. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University
in wildlife biology with an emphasis in geographic information systems and spatial
data analysis, and a Master of Arts degree in military history from Norwich University.
He served Michigan's Olivet College as director of Information Technology Services
for four years during an inspiring time of teaching and learning transformation and
institutional revitalization. For the past six years, he has taught online pedagogy
and instructional design for the Master of Education degree in online innovation and
design for UAF's School of Education, and he has enjoyed working with the great people
of UAF eCampus where he is currently the acting director.
Christopher Luchs
Tuesday, June 25, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Christopher “Chris” Luchs is the associated dean for Career and Technical Education
and Sciences at the Colorado Community Colleges Online, the online consortium of 13
community colleges that comprise the Colorado Community College System. In this role,
he provides strategic leadership and administration direction for the Career and Technical
Education and Science divisions. He has over 15 years of experience teaching online
and face-to-face classes, and has been an administrator for over 13 years at the community
college and four-year levels. His areas of instruction are business, accounting, and
multimedia and graphic design. In addition to formal college instruction, Chris has
a passion for investigating new technologies and collaborating internationally with
other educators on evaluating and exploring virtual worlds and games-based educational
applications. Lastly, he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in community college leadership
at Old Dominion University. His research and publishing interests include data justice,
governance, online learning and instructional innovation.
