Emergency system to go offline during server upgrade
October 16, 2014
The Office of Information Technology will upgrade the Alertus server Thursday, Oct.
23, from 9-10 a.m. During the upgrade, the system will be offline.
Alertus is an emergency notification system that is installed on most computers on
the Fairbanks, Kotzebue, Kuskokwim, Northwest, Bristol Bay and Juneau campuses. Alertus
provides popup messages on computer screens and wall beacons during emergencies.
For Mac computers, the software may be displayed as a small round yellow icon in the
upper right-hand corner of the desktop. On PCs, the icon may be visible in the lower
right-hand corner.
During this upgrade window, alerts will not be sent to computers or to the yellow
wall beacons on these campuses. The round icon on Macs and PCs may change from yellow
to red and back again during the upgrade cycle. The wall beacons may also display
“Offline” during this process.
