Community members can explore health careers and educational opportunities at the seventh Alaska Interior Medical Education Summit on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The summit will run from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Murie Building on the Fairbanks campus. Panel discussions, demonstrations and hands-on activities will introduce attendees to various health care careers and educational options.

Over 40 health care professionals, organizations and vendors from across the United States are expected to participate. Doctors, nurses, phlebotomists, veterinarians, dental technicians, UAF biomedical researchers and many other professionals will lead group discussions and activities. Information and resources about educational opportunities and funding options will also be available.

Carolyn Chapin, an advisor for UAF undergraduate students, said the event serves not only college students looking at becoming doctors but also a much wider group in the community.

“It’s for high school and college students, as well as people looking for opportunities that span the full range of health options — from medical biller to medical researcher,” Chapin said. “There should be something for everyone at AIMES.”

The event is free to the public. Preregistration is required. To register online or to explore last year’s program topics, visit https://sites.google.com/alaska.edu/aimes/home.
