The district Cooperative Extension Service office in Fairbanks will host 19 mini community classes April 20-26 as part of its Spring Extension Week.

Topics will include collecting birch sap with taps, managing parasites in small ruminants, operating your smart phone, making homemade bread, using social media and running a cottage food business. A variety of gardening classes will cover raising Interior vegetable varieties, growing garlic, gardening in raised beds, testing soil, growing small grains and beginning- and intermediate-level grafting of apple trees.

The classes last one to two hours and are free, except for apple-grafting classes. The full schedule and class descriptions are available at www.uaf.edu/ces/tanana/. Space is limited, so register at 907-474-1530.

The Extension office is located at 724 27th Ave., on the southwest side of the Fairbanks Community Food Bank building. The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is part of an educational network supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and land-grant universities.
