Faculty invited to syllabus workshop

It’s almost syllabus day! Is yours ready for students?

On Aug. 27, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., the Office of Information Technology's Training and Development Group and UAF eLearning will offer a robust lab and workshop in the Nook to help UAF faculty develop the most comprehensive syllabus possible. This one-day workshop is great for both face-to-face and online faculty. All-day attendance is recommended, but drop-ins are welcome.

The tentative sessions and labs are as follows:

Topic presentations β€” 8:30-10 a.m.


  • Welcome and review of the basics

  • Understanding assessment

  • Syllabus templates, calendars and Google Drive


Breakout labs β€” 10-noon, 1-3:30 p.m.

  • Syllabus writing

  • Assignment and assessment strategies

  • Calendar development and assessment

  • Organizing and sharing in Google Drive

  • Embedding in Blackboard

  • Blackboard Grade Center

  • Other places to share your syllabus (sites, Wordpress, etc.)


Final presentations β€” 3:30-4 p.m.

  • Sharing with other faculty and discussion


Faculty are encouraged to bring a syllabus (or ideas) and their computers.
