The University of Alaska Fairbanks is sponsoring UAF Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair Tuesday, Aug. 6. UAF employees, students and alumni can bring their UAF PolarExpress card or UAF Alumni Association membership card and receive $1 off adult fair admission.
From 1 to 7 p.m. on UAF Day, more than 20 university departments will host activities and demonstrations in two locations: Totem Square near the blue gate and the exhibit tent near the yellow gate. UAF Day will also include the second "Books from the 'Nooks" book drive. People can bring books appropriate for children and young adults and, for each book donated, get an entry for a drawing for two tickets to a university event. The books will be donated to first-year elementary school teachers in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District to help them establish libraries in their classrooms.
Throughout the fair, visit UAF’s main booth in the Borealis Pavilion for information, class schedules, undergraduate applications and details about the upcoming semester. Admissions counselors will be available to answer questions about registering for classes and applying to degree programs.
The UAF Passport will return to the fair this year. Fairgoers can pick up a passport at any of the following seven locations: the main UAF booth in the Borealis Pavilion, Cooperative Extension, UAF Community and Technical College, UA College Savings, the UAF Alumni Association burger booth, KSUA student radio and 4H. Passports must be stamped at every booth and then can be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to a variety of UAF events.
