Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra to open concert season
September 15, 2016
The Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra and conductor Eduard Zilberkant open their 2016-17
concert season on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 4 p.m. in the Charles W. Davis Concert Hall.
The concert will celebrate the centennial of the U.S. national parks and features
music inspired by three of them. The concert features two works, "Denali" and "Gates
of the Arctic," by wilderness composer Stephen Lias and the well-known "Grand Canyon
Suite" by Ferde Grofé. The concert will include slides projected over the orchestra
showing scenes at each national park.
Lias will attend the performance. He will join Zilberkant, the orchestra director
and president's professor of fine arts at UAF, for a preconcert lecture on the Davis
Hall stage beginning at 3 p.m. The lecture will enhance your understanding and appreciation
of the music to be performed.
