A rocket rises from UAF's Poker Flat Research Range, about 35 miles northeast of Fairbanks, at 1:40 a.m. on Jan. 20. The launch was a test for the 2015 Mesosphere-Lower Thermosphere Turbulence Experiment. Sounding rockets carrying the experiment's science payloads are on the pad waiting for perfect launch conditions. The MTeX team is studying how atmospheric turbulence stirs up the chemicals in Earth's atmosphere.
