Hands-on programs at the University of Alaska Museum of the North during the month of February will allow participants to learn about earthquakes.

On Friday, Feb. 1, the museum will offer a free children’s program about earthquakes at the Noel Wien Library at 1:30 pm. Participants will learn about earthquake science and how to be prepared for an earthquake.

The Early Explorers program for families with children 5 and under will take place each Friday from 10 a.m. to noon. There is no Early Explorers program on Feb. 15. On Saturday, Feb. 2, the Junior Curators program, which is open to children 6 and older, will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. These activities are included with admission and are free for museum members.

At Family Day: Earthquakes on Saturday, Feb. 9, from noon to 4 p.m., visitors can meet earthquake scientists, investigate what causes the ground to shake and learn how to prepare an emergency kit. There is no admission fee for children 14 and under at Family Days, thanks to support from TOTE Maritime.
