Finalists identified for UAF diversity director position

Two finalists have been identified in the search for a permanent director of the UAF Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity. They are Drew Phoenix and Margo Griffith.

Phoenix and Griffith will attend small forums for the campus community on Monday, Jan. 23. The first forum begins at 3:30 p.m. with Phoenix, with the second at 4:15 p.m., featuring Griffith. The forums will take place in Eielson 304. Each of the finalists will present a brief overview of their experience and then take questions from the audience.

Phoenix  most recently served as the executive director of Identity Inc., a statewide nonprofit organization working to advance equality and inclusion for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. He previously served as director of development and communications for the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska Foundation, campaign manager for Alaska Community Share and managing director of Alaska Community Action on Toxics. He holds a master of science in development management from The American University.

Griffith is currently the assistant director of UAF’s Office of Human Resources and has more than 16 years of human resources-related experience. In addition to her work as an HR consultant for several units on campus, she leads HR trainings on leadership, supervising and bullying awareness. Griffith serves as a Deputy Title IX coordinator with Trauma Informed Sexual Assault Investigation Training and is trained in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as bystander intervention through Green Dot.  She is a skilled facilitator experienced in conducting investigations and conflict resolution. Prior to UAF, Griffith worked with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the Fairbanks Native Association, and the State of Alaska Public Health Center.

The director of diversity and equal opportunity position provides leadership, oversight and administration of the university’s equal employment and educational opportunities, civil rights compliance, and diversity and inclusion programs.

This is an exempt position reporting directly to the UAF chancellor.
