First year experence seminar proposals wanted
December 2, 2013
UAF faculty members interested in submitting a proposal for a First Year Experience
Seminar for fall 2014 should do so before Jan. 16, 2014.
First Year Experience Seminars provide an unparalleled opportunity for faculty members
and small groups of first-year students to explore together a thought-provoking scholarly
topic. This is an opportunity to share your enthusiasm and passion for a topic in
your discipline or an interdisciplinary connection between your discipline and another
scholarly area. FYE Seminars follow an often spontaneous flow of dialogue and interchange
in the spirit of learning for its own sake. FYE Seminars are designed to develop critical
thinking and communication skills. By taking a seminar a student becomes an active
member of UAF’s intellectual community. FYE Seminars ordinarily involve one faculty
instructor and up to 25 students who meet weekly for one and a half hours for the
first nine weeks of the semester. Seminars are discussion-based, and students are
awarded a grade of pass/fail that counts towards the fulfillment of elective credit
requirements for graduation. Find out more.
