FloWater machines that allow purchase of high-quality filtered water have been installed by the Office of Sustainability at three locations on campus.

The machines are in the Reichardt Building on the second floor by the vending machines, in Duckering on the first floor by the vending machines and the Student Recreation Center on the second floor by the water fountains.

FloWater machines provide water intended for refilling multi-use bottles. The process includes sediment and carbon filtration, reverse osmosis, coconut carbon filtration, activated oxygen and ultraviolet light treatment and mineral enhancement. The water is chilled before being dispensed.

Prices vary depending on the amount of water dispensed. FloWater has six options available, ranging from 350 milliliters for 25 cents to 1.5 liters for 85 cents.

University students, faculty and staff now have the option to obtain high-quality water while doing their part to reduce the approximately 24 billion plastic water bottles that don’t get recycled each year in the United States.

Funding for the installations was allocated by the UAF Review of Infrastructure, Sustainability and Energy Board from student fees.
