Food preservation series offered

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will offer a monthly food preservation series in Fairbanks that begins March 11.

The March 11 class will cover water bath canning of acidic foods. Other classes will highlight pressure canning low-acidity foods; freezing and drying meats, fruits and vegetables; making jams and jellies; pickles and relishes; canning meat and fish; making sausage; and making yogurt and cheese.

Program assistant Marsha Munsell will teach the classes. Each will cost $15, or the eight-class series is $100. Anyone who signs up for all of the classes will receive a copy of Extension’s “Food Preservation Guide.’’

Classes will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month, through October, in the Fairbanks Community Food Bank kitchen at 725 26th Ave.
