Forestry workshops offered in Tok

Glen Holt will offer three free forestry workshops at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Tok Center during April and May.
Holt, the eastern Alaska forester for the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, will teach Interior Alaska Tree Identification, from 6 to 8 p.m., April 22; Firewood Cutting, Limbing, Bucking and Chainsaw Safety, from 6 to 8 p.m., April 24; and Forestry Management and Wildlife Habitat Enhancement from 6 to 8 p.m., May 6.
The April 22 identification workshop will cover tree species and some major shrub species found in the Tok area, and their value as forest products and wildlife habitant. The firewood course on April 24 will highlight safely and proficiently cutting timber with a chainsaw, limbing branches and bucking firewood or logs for the highest value, and chainsaw safety and maintenance.
The May 6 forestry management workshop will showcase current and previous timber harvesting within the Tanana Valley State Forest management areas, and how the land is administered to accomplish the regeneration and sustainability of various forest resources.
