Funding database training offered to faculty and staff
April 24, 2014
UAF's Grants and Contracts Administration will offer training in the use of the Sponsored
Programs Information Network on Wednesday, April 30, from 10–11 a.m. in the West Ridge
Research Building, Room 010-LL.
SPIN, offered through the online software package InfoEd, is the most widely used
funding opportunity database in the world. Across the globe nearly 500 institutions
subscribe to the web-based search engine. Researchers at these institutions use SPIN
as their one-stop-shop for identifying the latest grant programs.
By aggregating sponsor information in one system, SPIN cuts search times and increases
the likelihood of positive results. Program information is presented in a standard
format that allows investigators to readily compare opportunities.
There are currently over 40,000 funding opportunities from more than 10,000 sponsors
around the globe available in the system for browsing.
Interactive training participants are encouraged to bring a laptop.
Additional trainings are expected in May. Large groups should contact Grants and Contracts to
set up a training at their locations. Rural campuses will be contacted the week of
April 21st to setup individual training.
