GI Tract 5K goes virtual
April 14, 2020
The GI Tract 5K race is going virtual this year. Let's all go the social distance!
The GI Tract 5k Organizing Committee, all affiliated with UAF's Geophysical Institute,
decided to maintain the four-year tradition of this fun April run by making the race
COVID-19-style — virtual! The organizers are also expanding the beneficiaries — all
the money raised will be split between the American Heart Association and Geocare,
a fund that helps GI employees with unusual health care expenses not covered by insurance.
Run, walk or crawl a 5K any time between April 26, the day the race was scheduled
to occur, and May 17. Take selfies of you going the social distance! Share them with
UAF’s Facebook using #gitract5k2020.
T-shirts are available until April 23. Custom Ink, the company making the shirts, charges only to cover their costs, with
the balance going to the designated charity. While you are ordering your shirt, you'll have the opportunity to make an additional donation to benefit the American
Heart Association and Geocare.
