Student and employee governance organizations at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will host a community rally Monday, July 8, to urge legislators to override Gov. Mike Dunleavy's veto of university funding. The Associated Students of UAF, UAF Faculty Senate and UAF Staff Council invite members of the public to join them in advocating on behalf of the university.

The Override Rally will begin at 9 a.m. outside the Fairbanks Legislative Information Office at 1292 Sadler Way in Fairbanks. Rally participants will advocate for a legislative override of the governor's veto of $130 million from the university budget, which represents more than 40 percent of the state's funding for the university.

The rally will also mark the kickoff of ASUAF's Ride for the Override, a student government-led caravan across the state to build public awareness and support for a legislative override. To participate, contact Bernard Aoto, president of the Associated Students of UAF, at rideforoverride@gmail.com.

Those who wish to speak at the event should register on this form. University employees attending the rally during their work hours must claim leave if they are on contract and after consulting with their unit to ensure operations are not disrupted. UA resources may not be used to attend or participate in the event.
