Graduate student Peter Bieniek receives award

Peter Bieniek, a graduate student in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences and mentored by Uma S. Bhatt, received an outstanding poster presentation award for
his poster titled "Large-scale climate controls of Interior Alaska river ice breakup"
at the World Climate Research Programme Open Science Conference on Oct. 24 – 28 October in Denver, Colorado.
This study was also published in the Journal of Climate in 2011 and was co-authored
by Bhatt and NOAA scientists from the River Forecast Office in Anchorage and the National
Weather Service in Fairbanks.
