Alaska Nanooks sophomore Logan Hanneman (Fairbanks, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) was 14 seconds shy of All-American Honors as he finished 17th on the day to lead the blue and gold in the men's 10-kilometer interval start classic technique race at the NCAA Skiing Championships at the Rikert Nordic Center on Thursday morning.

“I certainly think we had pretty good skis but we certainly weren't where we raced earlier this season,” Alaska head coach Scott Jerome said. “There's a reason these are the 40 best skiers in the country.”

Hanneman completed the 10K course in 27 minutes and 10.2 seconds more than a minute behind the individual champion Rune Odegaard of Colorado, who crossed in 26 minutes, 0.2 seconds to claim the title by more than five seconds. The top five finishers earn First Team All-American honors, while skiers finishing 6-10 garner Second Team recognition.

“Logan was 10 seconds out of 11th place and 14 out of All-American honors” said Jerome. “That's a solid race for a 19 year-old.”

Crossing second for the Nanooks was sophomore Jonas Löffler (Saint Märgen, Germany/Business) in 28:13.6 and 31st place overall, while rookie Michael Fehrenbach (Saint Märgen, Germany/Mechanical Engineering) finished in 28:19.7 and 35th.

“It was a tricky wax day because the course became glazed as more people got on it, but I think our skis were okay, other than Mike's, which were a bit draggy,” Jerome said. “He also said that his legs weren't feeling good today.”

The Nanooks will look to improve on Thursday's results when they take to the trails on Saturday a 12 p.m. EST (10 a.m. AKST) for their 20K mass start freestyle race.
