Head of World Bank women's initiative to speak Nov. 20
November 18, 2019
Jessica Schnabel, head of the Banking on Women initiative at the World Bank Group's International Finance Corp., will offer a free public lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Bunnell Building's Schaible Auditorium.
Schnabel leads a team that invests in and provides advisory expertise to commercial banks in developing countries. This helps them to profitably finance women-owned businesses and provide the skills, technology and service to help them grow.
The International Finance Corp. is a branch of World Bank Group, an organization owned by UN member governments that invests in poverty reduction. Schnabel will discuss those organizations and the Banking on Women initiative, including global trends, success stories and lessons learned. A reception will follow the talk, which is sponsored by the UAF School of Management and Alaska StartupWeek.
Schnabel is the sister of Bill Schnabel, dean of the UAF College of Engineering and Mines.
