Healthy Living lecture series begins May 31

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning will present its fourth annual Healthy Living lecture series starting on May 31.

The 11-part lecture series features experts and specialists in various health issues.

Lectures begin at 7 p.m. every Tuesday in the Murie Building auditorium at UAF. Dr. J. Timothy Foote, a specialist in pediatrics, allergy, asthma and immunology, and Susan Henry, a certified pollen counter, will launch the series on May 31 with the topic, “Birch pollen: Nothing to sneeze at.”

The hour-long lectures will be followed by question-and-answer sessions. Other topics this summer will include aging at home, summer sleeping tips and organ donation. The series is supported by Tanana Valley Clinic, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and KUAC.

The summer schedule includes:

May 31 — “Birch pollen: Nothing to sneeze at,” Dr. J. Timothy Foote and Susan Henry

June 7 — “How to sleep soundly in the Land of the Midnight Sun,” Dr. Scott Luper

June 14 — “Aging at home Fairbanks: A village movement,” Barbara Lando

June 21 — “The invisible disability,” Dr. Steven Lewis

June 28 — “Six-pack to a better back,” Valerie Ann Phelps and Peter Burke

July 12 — “Cancer, your immune system, nutrition and immunotherapy,” Hannah Brice Smith

July 19 — “Why you see and why you don’t,” Dr. Katherine Johnson

July 26 — “Aerobics to Zumba: Finding your active groove,” Reina Hasting

Aug. 2 — “Replacement options for missing teeth,” Dr. Jeffery Rogers

Aug. 9 — “Immunizations across the lifespan,” Shelly Foint Anderson and Jenny Davis

Aug. 16 — “Saving and healing lives through organ donation,” Sanya Krenzelok
