Healthy Living lecture series to begin May 29

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning will offer its
Healthy Living lecture series starting on May 29.
The annual series features experts and specialists in various health issues. The lectures
begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Murie Building auditorium at UAF, followed by question-and-answer
sessions.
Mike Bork, a stress management consultant and coach, will begin the series on May
29 with “Stress and the Balloon Animal.”

naturopathic doctor
June 19 — “Head over Heels for Balance,” Cheryl Sackett, physical therapist, and Heidi
Watkins, athletic trainer
June 26 — “The Obesity Paradox,” Muhammad Ahmed, endocrinologist
July 10 — “Addressing Opioids and Methamphetamines in 2018 – Alaska Communities Respond,”
Dr. Jay Butler, chief medical officer, Alaska Department of Health and Social Services,
and director of Division of Public Health
July 17 — “Secrets to Personal Medication Management: At Home, During Travel, and
How to Dispose Properly of Medications,” Karen Miller, pharmacist
July 24 — “Travel and Global Health: How to Stay Healthy and Alive When Traveling
and Not Become a Victim or Public Health Concern When Returning Home,” Dennis Rogers,
physician assistant
July 31 — “Dry Needling: Effective Treatment for Muscle Pain,” Denise Jerome, physical
therapist
Aug. 7 — “What it Means to be a Community Hospital, and the Foundation Health Partners-Mayo
Clinic Relationship,” Dr. Michael Swenson, Tanana Valley Clinic chief medical officer,
Jim Lynch, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital CEO
