Help boost renewable energy on campus
February 9, 2015
The Office of Sustainability is looking for interested people to participate on the
UAF renewable energy committee. The group will brainstorm options, identify potential
projects and work together to bring more renewable energy to campus.
The committee may explore solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, geothermal, wind and
biofuel energy sources. The committee will inventory buildings at UAF to identify
the best renewable energy applications and explore alternative energy options for
transportation and the UAF vehicle pool.
This will be a core advisory committee as UAF moves toward sustainability. Last month,
UAF adopted a Sustainability Plan. One goal in the plan is to obtain 25 percent of
UAF's energy from renewables by 2025. Reaching this ambitious goal will demand campuswide
engagement, planning and commitment to making choices that are forward-thinking, operationally
efficient, environmentally responsible and fiscally sound.
No expertise is necessary to serve on the committee. If interested, please email mamouton@alaska.edu or call 5070. The first meeting will be Thursday, March 5, from 1-2 p.m. at the Office
of Sustainability in the upstairs of the Lola Tilly Commons.
