Henderson named hockey's CCHA Scholar Athlete nominee

Senior center and team captain Adam Henderson is one of 11 outstanding student-athletes to be designated as their team's 2012-13 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be chosen from the group of nominees with the winner announced at the 2013 CCHA Awards on Friday, March 22.
Henderson played in all 37 gamed for Alaska this year scoring five goals and 12 points for his career season-high. One of Alaska's most physical players, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound center played on the power-play and penalty kill throughout the season. His 364 face-off wins rank 22nd among NCAA Division I centers and third amongh his CCHA counterparts. He was also one of nominated for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award.
Off the ice, he has a bachelors degree in finance from UAF and is pursuing his masters of business administration at UAF, while maintaining a 3.86 grade-point average. He was Alaska's 2012 CCHA Scholar Athlete of the Year nominee as well as the team's Dirk Anderson Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Don Jamieson Unsung Hero.

The faculty athletic representative at each school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the school's nominee for CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to be eligible for the CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which is selected by the 11 faculty athletic representatives. Voting is based on a system that awards five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.
The 2013 CCHA Awards will be held on Friday, March 22 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. The event is open to the public and tickets are $25. The evening begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Awards Show at 7:35. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling the CCHA office at (248) 888-0600.
