I am pleased to announce two new committees to help develop short- and long-term plans to relocate the Alaska Nanook men’s hockey venue from the Carlson Center to the Patty Center on campus. The permanent move is necessary because of the Carlson Center ice plant’s condition, the budget uncertainty facing the university, and our desire to enhance the student and student-athlete experience on campus.

The UAF Hockey Venue Transition Committee will identify steps needed to move Nanook hockey to campus in case of ice plant failure during the 2019-2020 season, what is needed to move hockey within two years, and what will be needed beyond the two years. Members include:

  • Mark Herrmann (chair)

  • Scott Roselius

  • Ben Roth

  • Peggy Keiper

  • Keith Bartusch

  • Dirk Menard

  • Keith Swarner

  • Marisa Sharrah

  • Michelle Evans

  • Erik Largen

  • Pending – one invitation outstanding

The UAF Hockey Venue Steering Committee will develop a short- and long-term funding strategy to ensure the Patty Center can accommodate Nanook hockey permanently. Members include:

  • Jason Gootee, chair

  • Cary Keller

  • Erika Swanson

  • Don Lucia

  • Meg Nordale

  • Terlynn Olds

UAF is transforming and repositioning itself to create a modernized student experience. Bringing Nanook hockey back to campus is part of this vision, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with our stakeholders, community partners, students, staff and faculty in making this possible.
