Honors students donate to Kaktovik school
February 11, 2020
Students in UAF's Honors College are donating money they earned working as coat checkers
at last weekend's Blue and Gold Celebration to help rebuild a school in Kaktovik.
The students typically use funds collected from the tip jar have subsidized Honors
student activities and scholarships. This year, however, they decided to send their
earnings to the North Slope community, whose school was substantially destroyed in
a fire Feb. 7. It was the village's only school and also served as a social center
for area residents.
