IARC Salon: 'Alaska's 2019 Extended Wildfire Season'

Same info as announcement but with photos of the three panelists.Join the International Arctic Research Center for this month's IARC Salon panel discussion on wildfire. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, from 2-3 p.m. in Akasofu 401.

The first panelist is Uma Bhatt, who studies the seasonal predictability of fire weather. She is co-lead of the boreal forest component of the Alaska EPSCoR project so is challenged to think about many aspects of fire.

The next panelist is Nancy Fresco, who studies relationships between climate warming, more fire and shifting vegetation using locally focused climate data and models from the Scenarios Network for Alaska and Arctic Planning.

The final panelist is Joe Little, who has a dual appointment as an economist with the School of Management and IARC, and who researches fire suppression costs based on climate model projections for increased occurrence and severity.
