Mark Billingsley has joined the UAF Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization as the intellectual property and contracts director. He will work to protect UAF inventors' intellectual property, commercialize the inventions, and assist with contract support and inventor education.

Billingsley has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Florida and a law degree from Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. He is a member of the Alaska Bar Association and has more than five years experience as an attorney.

“I’m eager to get to work helping UAF inventors bring their products to the marketplace for the benefit of the inventors, UAF, Alaska’s economy and all of society," Billingsley said. "I’ll draw from my legal and engineering backgrounds to help usher each of UAF’s inventions through each step of the process."

“I’m excited to have Mark join our team, and I look forward to working with him as we engage inventors at UAF. Mark joins the office as we are streamlining our processes and website to better serve UAF inventors,” said Richard Collins, OIPC director.

OIPC also has scheduled meetings with colleges and institutes around campus to introduce the Inventor Portal, which can be opened at uaf.edu/oipc/. The portal's secure website lets UAF inventors manage their disclosure, patenting and marketing work.

“The Inventor Portal is our way of being more transparent and accessible to our inventors," said Melissa McCumby, OIPC office manager. "We’re excited to see how well this assists our inventors.”
